Creativity

In late 2024, I started this project (not really a project actually, more of a general structure for working, as many of my projects are) to try and get myself to do more creative projects. This page catalogues the creative projects I've finished so far.

1 Unspecified cover for unspecified music competition 11/25/2024 11/25/2024 11/30/2024 4 hours My first time making music. The competition was going to be judged by the original artist, so I tried to make my cover as distorted and abrasive as possible to freak him out. I used Terry Cavanaugh's Bosca Ceoil for instrumentals, screamed the lyrics into my microphone, and layered the best takes over each other in Adobe Premiere Pro. I think I got the reaction I wanted, though I felt bad because he sounded like he genuinely didn't know what to say. I'm not gonna share it here--too embarrassing.
2 This Home Has Homes 12/12/2024 12/12/2024 12/12/2024 2 hours 30 minutes Short exploratory interactive picture book (?) made with Internet Janitor's Decker. I signed up for a lot of game jams on my itch.io account to try and guilt myself into working before the deadline. It worked--I saw the deadline for this jam (HYPERTELEX's DITHERJAM) was at the end of the afternoon and rushed this from concept to submission like 10 minutes before the competition closed. I'm very proud of it under those constraints. My very first thought was to set the game in a train with each car having different "cars" inside it, but I immediately dropped that idea when unsplash.com refused to turn up any good results for train interior pictures.
3 Shrinking Deposits 12/14/2024 12/15/2024 12/15/2024 4 hours Short visual novel made with MakeHuman Community and Stanwixbuster's mod of communistsister's wonderful Super Videotome. This was yet another game jam project I rushed from start to finish in a very short time after seeing the deadline was coming up (see project #2 for more details), this time for TorDEV's lame jam 46. I submitted it 10 minutes before the deadline. I made it primarily as an excuse to try and fit the freaky models MakeHuman Community could create into a narrative.
4 New Chair 12/14/2024 12/22/2024 12/25/2024 10 hours Short interactive comic with multiple endings made with Internet Janitor's Decker for several game jams. Especially proud of this one--spent way too long on planning and drawing for what I thought would be a short project (I got it in like 3 hours before the deadline) but I think it came out about as well as I wanted it too. My first time drawing with the mouse for so long--really painful.
5 YOU NEED TO LEAVE. 12/28/2024 12/29/2024 12/29/2024 1 hour 30 minutes Physical game that acts as a sort of spiritual successor to FIGHT GAME, a physical game I made earlier in 2024 about trying to start fights with as many people as possible. Both games are me just kind of messing with something I think is funny, which is the unique humor of having to do something for a game. There's this bit in Cranium the board game where players have to do charades for their team but by puppeteering a team member's body, and it's so uncomfortable and awkward that the humor of it becomes (at least to me) "I can't believe this game is making me do this." In the same way, I think a game like this can work as a joke even if you don't play it, and that's interesting to me. A game that entertains you not because you play it, but because you could play it (but won't).
